| THE SON OF MAN |

After four months we have now arrived at the last book of the Bible.

This book begins with these words, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near (Revelation 1:3).” Look at who is blessed. It is the one who reads, hears, and keeps. What do we read, hear, and keep? We see Jesus revealed!

That is the best bit of advice I’ve ever received about reading Revelation. My pastor during college, Petros Roukas, said, “Look at the title of the book. It isn’t Revelations, it’s Revelation. It is the revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ.” As you look at the many spectacles and signs throughout this book don’t get lost as to who or what it is that is being revealed. Look for Jesus in Revelation.

We see that he is Alpha and Omega. He is and was and is to come. He is Almighty.

Who is Jesus?

Especially after just celebrating Christmas, do you find this description of Jesus a little shocking? He doesn’t look like a baby in a manger anymore. Clearly, there is more to Jesus than a gentle child, meek and mild. Just consider a few of these attributes.

  • Long Robe & Golden Sash: Priestly & extravagent Garment (Daniel 10:5) symbolizing purity.
- White Hair: Ancient of Days (Daniel 7:9) - Jesus is the God revealed in the Old Testament. He shares the attributes of the Father.
- Flaming Eyes: God is a consumign fire (Daniel 10:6).
- Bronze Feet: The refining fire from his head to his toes. Bronze is stronger than fine metals and is often used in weapons of war. This suggests righteous judgment but is burnished to purity.

Alive Forevermore

I am particularly taken with Jesus’ own statement, “I died, and behold I am alive forevermore!” There is nothing more shocking and real for the believer than that we have this hope in him, that we died with him, and we will live forevermore.
